Bug Party
Invitations Use
bug stickers and have your child decorate the front of each invitation. Inside,
"Creep on over to help celebrate ___________'s Birthday" or
"Buzz on by, we're going to celebrate__________'s 5th
birthday!" When the guests arrive, set the mood by applying a bug tattoo to each of their arms. Give each child a headband with antennae made from pipe cleaners, painted Styrofoam balls and pom-poms.
Decorations Use red balloons with black dots for ladybugs and yellow balloons with black stripes for bees. For a table cover, use an old white sheet and have each child draw an insect on it with marker. A spider made from a black balloon with twisted streamers for legs would look great hanging over the party table. Make construction paper insects and paper flowers to hang with streamers.
Food Use inexpensive clay pots to hold gummy worms and "larva" (puffed Cheetos), other snacks. Create bugs from string cheese and add chow mien noodle legs and antennae. Use butterfly and other bug shaped cookie cutters to cut out finger sandwiches. Freeze plastic bugs in ice cubes to be served in the punch. Make dirt cups using clear plastic cups with alternating pudding, crumbled Oreos and gummy worms.
Games and Activities Pin the spider in the web Cut out one spider from black construction paper for each party guest. Have each guest decorate his spider with gel pens. Draw a large spider web on white poster board. Put double sided tape on the back of each child's spider. Blindfold each child and see which child can get their spider closest to the center of the web.
Fly- Fly - Spider Played like duck-duck-goose.
Bug Hunt Before the party, hide plastic bugs around the house or the yard. Give each child a paper lunch bag to decorate with insect stickers and markers. Then tell them to find as many bugs as possible. The children get to keep the bugs they find and the bags become their party favor bags.
Bug Art Give each child a plain white t-shirt (or ask them to bring one). On a covered work surface, have them decorate their shirts using craft paint and bug stamps. Make sure you insert a piece of cardboard in between the front and back of the shirt so the paint doesn't bleed to the other side.
Favors Magnifying glasses, bug boxes, stickers, pencils with bug designs, plastic bugs,
